SARS-CoV-2 is a virus that was first discovered after an outbreak of the infectious disease COVID-19 that began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.[1][2] The virus was named by the Coronavirus Study Group (CVSG) of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV), which is responsible for the official classification of viruses.
